Hometown Insurance became involved in racing in 1996 with O/T Racing which races the #55 Nascar Late model out of Riverhead Raceway. Hometown is an associate sponsor with our name and logo located on the left and right rocker panels. The driver of the car Steve Tooker has been involved in every aspect of racing for almost 3 decades. When he was 14 years old he started as a track sweeper. He then went on to sponsor and crew chief cars in both the charger and late model at Riverhead Raceway and Freeport Speedway. Steve then decided to try his own hand at driving. He entered the Charger Division at Riverhead Raceway. That year he won the "Rookie of the Year Award." The Following year he placed second in Race Point Standings. In 1987 Steve moved up a notch to the Late Model Division, with 1 win in that season and consistent top 5 finishes, he recieved another "Rookie of the Year Award." In 1989, 1995 and 1997 he would earn second in Race Point Standings and then in 1996 Steve took down the Championship for the first time with repeated performances in the 1998 and 1999 in the Late Model Division at Riverhead Raceway.
